Well, maybe not everyone. The 9-minute uncensored footage from Alexandre Aja’s Piranha 3D was prohibited from being shown at last week’s San Diego Comic Con 2010. Instead, the scenes were shown downtown to a very impressed crowd of gorehounds. Naturally, the clip was released online through BloodyDisgusting to even more acclaim from fans.
The clip introduces us to the piranhas in all their vicious, bloodhungry glory as they chomp into spring breakers’ flesh left and right. The piranhas aren’t the only things taking people out in the clip that envokes the amused dread of a Final Destination disaster.
You can view the clip here.
Before viewing this clip, I had very little interest in seeing this. Okay, none whatsoever. I love Alexandre Aja, but the trailers for this movie did nothing for me. The CGI looks awful (still does even in the clip, but I hear it’s supposed to be a bit more polished for the theatrical release), and I wasn’t sure how serious it was taking itself. After seeing all of the mayhem in the clip, I think I may catch a matinee showing. It looks intentionally campy and fun rather than corny like the trailer led me to believe.
Piranha 3D boasts a pretty well-known cast with Elisabeth Shue (Hollow Man), Ving Rhames (Dawn of the Dead), Jerry O’Connell (Obsessed), Dina Meyer (Saw I-IV), Eli Roth (Inglourious Basterds) and Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future I-III). It hits theaters on August 20th.

lol that was some clip. I could imagine what this looks like in the theater w 3d glasses
ReplyDeleteI wish the merry-go-round of 3D movies would stop already. Hollywood has been on this 3D kick for too long and the technology is nowhere near the quality it should be to warrant the charging of "renting" the glasses. Being a person that wears prescription eyewear, the 3D glasses are bothersome and uncomfortable, havent met a pair yet that I like. I know I'm ranting and raving about the 3D aspect of the movie instead of the actual film, but when 3D is attached to the title of the primary marketing push, I immediately cringed at the thought of seeing any movie with 3D in the title.
ReplyDeleteI'm really tired of the 3D trend too. Nothing 3D every actually looks good to me; it always looks kind of fuzzy and it kind of hurts my eyes. If I see this it won't be in 3D. The whole 3D aspect is such an unnecessary novelty that I could do without.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I'm going to admit that I am too damn scared to watch the clip. Secondly, I will say that I, too, am tired of the 3-D trend. I can't think of a time that 3D has enhanced my moviegoing experience. When I saw the preview for Step Up 3D, I cringed with embarassment. As for Pihrana, I think the cast is the only thing that will carry this film.

ReplyDeleteHaha-well it's not for those with a weak stomach. 3D actually makes my moviegoing experience kind of irritating. I pay extra money so that my eyes can hurt and maybe two things pop out impressively. I'm kind of excited for Piranha now, but I enjoy B-movie campiness. Without the cast I probably wouldn't care AS much.
ReplyDeleteOk, I have to admit, I was scared to watch this too!! But I don't really "get" the whole 3D thing- it feels a little too much like Disneyland.
ReplyDeleteI tried to view the clip but the site wouldn't let me. This movie looks horrible from the trailer, and I have no intention of seeing it. If they are going to clean it up a bit then I might think about it, but I do also agree the 3-D trend is highly overrated and they need to improve the technology before everyone jumps on the bandwagon.
ReplyDeleteOh, lame. I think the site it's on is upgrading, or else the footage got restricted. Well, it's basically just a lot of blood and boobs. I'll try to find another link if that one keeps messing up.
ReplyDeleteAwww you reminded me that I didn't get to go to Comic-Con! Oh well, maybe next year...
ReplyDeleteI agree with Daisy- I am scared to watch the clip. I would just end up peeking through my fingers anyway I suppose. I have seen the way tamed down preview, and I will stick with that. I was quite surprised at the cast. For Christopher Lloyd's sake, I hope it does well. :)
It's all the expectations. If you know this movie will be bad going into the theatre, you won't be feeling cheated once you've seen it (unless it's even worse than you expected).
ReplyDeleteYa I definitely think this movie is supposed the be over the top campy and weirdly funny. I kind of secretly want to see it.
ReplyDeleteI am not a gore fan, so I won't be seeing this. I do agree with everyone else about the 3D trend though. I have not seen anything worth the extra 3 bucks I have to pay to borrow the glasses. I've seen Clash of the Titans and How to Train Your Dragon, and was not impressed by the 3D aspects. In fact, I think Captain EO from Disneyland had better effects 20 years ago, or whenever it was that I saw that as a kid.
ReplyDeleteWow, I feel that I don't really need to see the movie after viewing that trailer. It had literally everything; over the top gore, silly deaths, nudity, more silly deaths. I think I might wait till this shows up on Netflix instant play.
ReplyDeleteOk, so I'm with many of you. I'm pretty tired of the whole 3D thing. I think it needs to end. We are all over it!! Well, I also have to admit, like several others, that I couldn't get myself to watch the clip. I'm really not into scary movies or gore and for some reason the idea of being attacked under water really freaks me out. I can do the "Saw" movies and "Nightmare on Elmstreet", but I can't do anything that involves water for some reason. Maybe it's because I grew up on the beach and love it. I don't want anything to ruin that for me. I guess that's why I've never watched the "Jaws" movies either.
ReplyDeleteI'm with many of you too on the whole 3-D movies thing. Why must new releases have to be in 3-D now? It's more expensive to watch and it's not comfortable to the eyes. This movie sounds too gory for me. I can deal with psychopath killers, but fish or animals going after people is too much for me.
ReplyDeleteOkay didn't even get through the whole thing! Don't think I will be going to see this one maybe it will be one of those rental B movies.
ReplyDeleteYikes! I don' think this will be a movie that I'll be going to see. Not my style.
